Media Matters (That George Soros Place) is once again trying to distance itself from George Soros.
“Internet gossip Matt Drudge has claimed that Media Matters for America is a “Soros operation.”
In fact, Media Matters has never received funding from progressive philanthropist George Soros.”
Back in 2005, CNS News service caught MM in the deception:
“Media Matters for America, the group headed by conservative turned liberal writer David Brock, has changed course on its stated association with billionaire liberal financier George Soros.
After initially claiming on Dec. 1, 2004 that “neither Media Matters nor its president and CEO David Brock has received any money from Soros or from any organization with which he is affiliated,” the group is no longer disavowing any connection with groups “affiliated” with Soros.
The Media Matters shift came after Cybercast News Service questioned the group’s financial ties and demonstrated that there were numerous and extensive links between Media Matters and several Soros “affiliates” like MoveOn.org, the Center for American Progress and Soros ally Peter Lewis.
Media Matters for America (MMA) spokeswoman Sally Aman responded to Cybercast News Service’s questions with an e-mail. “In response to your query regarding donor funding Media Matters for America has never received funding directly from George Soros,” Aman stated, no longer denying any relationship with organizations affiliated with Soros.
She went on to reference the “early support from Moveon.org, and the New Democrat Network,” that Media Matters had received.
In its role as a liberal media watchdog, Media Matters for America takes on some of the biggest names in media. Brock also authored the 2002 book, “Blinded by the Right, The Conscience of an Ex-Conservative,” in which he denounced the conservative movement where he first gained fame and disclosed his homosexuality.”
George Soros didn’t become a crook by directly having his fingerprints on any of his ‘ventures’, but as CNS found:
“While there is no evidence Soros gave directly to Brock and Media Matters, clearly Soros-funded groups have been instrumental in getting MMA started.”
David Horowitz is familiar with the practice of changing one’s political ideology, but in Horowitz’ case, he was a 1960s radical who became a conservative author. Horowitz charged that Media Matters’ original claim that it had taken no money from Soros or groups affiliated with Soros was “a lie.”
“This is typical of Brock’s operation,” Horowitz told Cybercast News Service . “They split hairs to present an untruth.”
Media Matters can no longer deny its Soros affiliation because “once you have the names (of donors), once you know that Peter Lewis is involved, you can’t deny it,” said Horowitz, who as a conservative, co-founded the Los Angeles-based Center for the Study of the Popular Culture and Front Page Mag.com, a news and commentary website.”
So as it is with liberals it all depends on what you mean by “funded”.

1Now look into the Tides Foundation. The Tides foundation is designed specifically to allow people to hide donations to various groups. You hand a donation to Tides and tell them where you want the money to go. They then donate the money in their name. Your name doesn’t appear on the target donor list and you appear only as a donor to Tides without mention of your earmark for the funds on the Tides rolls. It is specifically designed to hide donations.
Find a list of Tides contributions and you will find a list of all the usual suspects on the left. You might also find that they all share a common PR agency too … Fenton Communications.

2Oh and then connect Tides to Heinz which connects to Kerry … and you have established a direct Democratic Party interest in these groups. Not “grass roots” organizations that happen to support Democrats but an huge “astroturf” campaign directly funded and controlled by Democrats.

3In order to compete with these people the right needs to build a competing “machine” like the left has built. An organization like Tides to collect donations and funnel them anonymously into various groups. A PR company like Fenton that acts to direct each of the various activist groups, coordinate their activities, create common themes, and prevent them from working at cross purposes. In other words, a good old fashioned “astroturf” machine just like the Democrats have. Want some history? Look into what Fenton’s role was in the Alar apple scare several years ago. They did the same thing. Practically overnight creating “grass roots” organizations across the country.
Cindy Sheehan, Code Pink, Charles Johnson, VIPs, MoveOn … all Fenton clients. And there are a boatload more … Win Without War … and a lot more. Their activities directed from the same place, their funding coming from the same place … it is a machine.
