By now you have see the Rep. David Obey implosion via You Tube. (UPDATE: Here is the video)
You can view it on Michelle Malkin’s site. But what about that mother, Tina Richards who identified herself as a mother of a marine? Was she there for a simple question or was this an elaborate setup.
A simple Google search shows that she well established in the antiwar movement and has been for sometime. In fact in January Richards made a rucus at at Senate Judiciary Hearing.
“Tina Richards, the mother of a US Marine who has already done two tours in Iraq interrupted a Senate hearing Tuesday to beg Senators not to send her son for a third tour.
As Senator Orrin Hatch, a strong supporter of the Bush Administration’s policy in Iraq, was telling members of the Senate Judiciary Committee that when considering a resolution opposing the
President’s plan to send even more soldiers to Iraq, “we must also consider the message that we are sending to our troops,” a woman in a tee shirt reading “Military Families Speak Out” interrupted him.“Stop the surge,” said Richards, who identified herself as the mother of a US Marine who after returning from his second tour in Iraq was now being recalled for yet another.
“Don’t send my son back please,” said Richards while Judiciary Committee chairman Senator Russell Feingold, D-Wisconsin, attempted to gavel the hearing to order.
“Bring the troops home please. My son is broken, he cannot go for a third time and come back”
Well, he’s not that broken….
Actually her son Cloy is a marine and for a while now (between tours) an antiwar activist and a member of Iraq Veterans Against the War.
“On Thursday evening, September 21, 2006, a spirited crowd gathered to hear Marine Cloy Richards (Iraq Veterans Against the War) and his mother Tina Richards (Military Families Speak Out (Missouri/Midwest)). You can hear Cloy‚Äôs moving reflections on his two tours of combat duty in Iraq and the damage which the war is inflicting on the Iraqi and American people by clicking here for video, or clicking here for audio only. (8 minutes, missing the very end). Also see this video of MFSO‚Äôs vigil in SE Missouri.”
Now first I would thank Cloy for his service and he has every right to speak out against the war if he desires. But this makes Obey the victim of a setup which is a consistant MO of the left (George Allen?).
As much fun as it is to watch a Democrat throw a fit, fair is fair and Obey was punked. But this also brings us to another point. That is if as his mom said he is readying for a third deployment then technically speaking out against the war (and so the Commander and Chief) is a violation of the UCMJ (Uniform Code of Military Justice).
I’ve forwarded this information to the Corps as I’m sure they would need to followup.
