California Supremes override the will of the voters in Reverse of Gay Marrage Ban ****UPDATE: Family Groups to file suit to overturn

And every vote counts huh?

“California’s supreme court ruled that a ban on gay marriage was unlawful Thursday, effectively leaving same-sex couples in America’s most populous state free to tie the knot in a landmark ruling.
In an opinion that analysts say could have nationwide implications for the issue, the seven-member panel voted 4-3 in favor of plaintiffs who argued that restricting marriage to men and women was discriminatory.

“… limiting the designation of marriage to a union ‘between a man and a woman’ is unconstitutional and must be stricken from the statute,” California Chief Justice Ron George said in the written opinion.

Before Thursday only one US state — Massachusetts — allowed gay marriage, although California, New Jersey and Vermont have legislation which grants same-sex partners many of the same legal rights as married couples.

Thursday’s ruling came after a long-running legal battle that erupted in 2000 when California voters approved a law declaring that only marriages between men and women could be legally recognized.”

Too bad it’s heading to the Supreme Court. Additionally I think a suit or two filed on behalf of voter’s rights in California is in the cards as well.

It’s not over yet.

UPDATE: Via a Family Group email to me, they are going to file a federal suit next week that the ruling itself is flawed based on the justices ruling that being “gay” is “immutable”, which might work because “immutable” is a opinion, but not a fact and as such it rips the entirety of the ruling to shreds. In point of fact via the opinion that:

“We therefore conclude that in view of the substance and significance of the fundamental constitutional right to form a family relationship, the California Constitution properly must be interpreted to guarantee this basic civil right to all Californians, whether gay or heterosexual, and to same-sex couples as well as to opposite-sex couples.”

Could of course could be applied to polygamy, pedophilia, marrying your dog, the list is endless. Just anywhwere someone wants to join something or someone who they think is “family”. I see many grounds to show that the ruling is flawed and could be overturned.

It may be unnecessary however as the issue will be on the November ballot thus voters will likely overturn the ruling.

Again, not over yet. We simply cannot accept this scourge on society and must work to eliminate it.

Ex (DEMOCRAT) Newark Mayor and his “mistress” convicted of corruption

I had to amend the headline because as usual the AP on does so down into the middle of the story.

“A federal jury convicted ex-Mayor Sharpe James and his former mistress Wednesday of corruption stemming from the cut-rate sale of city land.

James was convicted on all five charges he faced, including fraud and conspiracy. Under federal guidelines, he could face seven to eight years in prison, but a judge could impose as much as 20 years on some individual counts. James could also be stripped of pensions that provide a six-figure annual income.

His ex-girlfriend, Tamika Riley, was convicted on the same five charges and eight others, including evading taxes and cheating to obtain subsidized housing assistance for herself. She faces a similar sentence.

Neither James nor Riley showed any emotion as the verdicts were read. The two and their lawyers declined comment afterward.

Both remain free on bail. Sentencing was set for July 29.

The jury deliberated about 30 hours over six days at a courthouse just a block from City Hall, where James led New Jersey’s largest city for 20 years until 2006. Riley, 39, was a publicist who once ran a clothing boutique in the same neighborhood.

Prosecutors charged that the 72-year-old James, who was also a Democratic state senator from 1999 to January 2008, abused his office as mayor and betrayed his constituents by arranging for the sale of nine city-owned properties for $46,000 to Riley from 2001 to 2005. Riley quickly sold them for $665,000 without ever starting required rehabilitation work on most of them, prosecutors said.

James’ attorneys argued that no evidence showed that the mayor assisted Riley or even had knowledge of her transactions, and that the mayor’s interest in redeveloping the struggling city was well within the scope of his duties.”

Another crooked democrat taking the money for the poor and enriching himself.

hmmmmmmmmmmmm.

More “Swamp Music” from Corrupt Democrats

It’s raining corruption with the Democrats of late. If it’s not “hooking” up with ladies of the night with tax payer buck, it’s tying to be a modern day hood in the Motor City:

“Mayor Kwame Kilpatrick, a one-time rising star and Detroit’s youngest elected leader, was charged Monday with perjury and other counts after sexually explicit text messages contradicted his sworn denials of an affair with a top aide.

Wayne County Prosecutor Kym Worthy also charged the popular yet polarizing 37-year-old mayor with obstruction of justice and misconduct in office. Kilpatrick, who was to be arraigned Tuesday afternoon, could face up to 15 years in prison and be expelled from office if convicted.

“Some have suggested that the issues in this case are personal or private,” Worthy said. “Our investigation has clearly shown that public dollars were used, people’s lives were ruined, the justice system severely mocked and the public trust trampled on. … This case is about as far from being a private matter as one can get.”

Speaking several hours later, Kilpatrick said he expects to be cleared.

“I look forward to complete exoneration once all the facts have been brought forth,” Kilpatrick said. “I will remain focused on moving this city forward.”

Former Chief of Staff Christine Beatty, 37, who also denied under oath that she and Kilpatrick had a romantic relationship in 2002 and 2003, was charged with perjury and obstruction of justice. A message seeking comment from Beatty’s attorney, Jeffrey Morganroth, was not returned.

The charges could signal the end of Kilpatrick’s six-year career as mayor of one of America’s largest cities. Calls for his resignation have surfaced since late January and the Detroit City Council asked him to step down last week.”

Kilpatrick is nothing more than a street hood parading as a respectable mayor. No dice.

Here’s Kilpatrick in an “N-Word” laced rant last week.
