In Texas it’s get tough on immigration or get out!
“Supporters of crackdowns against illegal immigration in Irving and Farmers Branch are leading in their races for political office.
Farmers Branch City Councilman Tim O’Hare, 38, the champion of an effort to ban illegal immigrants from renting apartments in his city, is leading the mayoral race with 68 percent of the vote with five of 19 precincts reporting. His opponent, Gene Bledsoe, has 32 percent of the vote. Bledsoe said the city is spending too much money legally defending a rental ban doomed to be struck down in the courts.
Irving Mayor Herbert Gears, 45, whose reelection campaign included support for the city’s Criminal Alien Program, is leading with 53 percent percent of the early vote. CAP refers suspected illegal immigrants in the city’s jail to federal immigration officials and has resulted in the deportation of more than 2,700 people since it started in September 2006.
Gears’ opponents Roland Jeter, who advocated a tougher crackdown, has 38 percent of the vote; Rigo Reza, who supported easing the crackdown, has 8 percent of the vote.”
This is happening in local races across the country. By and large Americans want the influx of illegal immigrants stopped and those in this country illegally deported. It’s not rocket science, it’s upholding the law. It’s what America is made of. This is something McCain ought to remember when he’s out kowtowing to LaRaza in July.

1In 2004, I was a delegate to the TxGOP convention. Illegal immigration was an issue during that convention with the TxGOP endorsing the enactment of laws that would prevent illegals from gaining state services. It was knocked down by the Democrats in Austin and we did not have enough power to enact those laws.
In 2006, the TxGOP platform about amnesty read: NO AMNESTY. NO WAY.
This year, I am so upset with the national GOP and their spineless caving to the Democrats (ANWAR, Shamnesty, etc.) that I am not a delegate to our state convention this year chosing instead to work for local candidate who do back our desire to end state benefits to illegals as well as legal prosecution of employers who hire illegals.
But I can assure you this: Texas Republicans are fed up with the influx of illegal into our state (at present, around 2 MILLION) and the financial drain they are causing on Texas taxpayers as well as the crime factor.
I live two blocks from the very railroad tracks taken by the Railroad Killer, Angel Resendez. He killed three people in Wiemer, Texas, just 30 miles from my home. I was familiar with the minister, and his wife, that were bludgened to death by Resendez. People in my area lived in fear until he was apprehended by a Texas Ranger (although the FBI seems to want to take credit for the apprehension). But it brought home the cost of illegal immigration.
Most in my TxGOP local are having a hard time deciding whether to vote for McCain and if he does appear at the LaRaza conference, he just may lose Texas. He can try to pander to the Texas Hispanic voter, but basically, they are registered Democrats and will not cross over just to vote for McCain because he pimps himself to LaRaza.
Our Congress meets again next year and hopefully we can pass legislation much like Oklahoma has. With the cost of education the children of illegal immigrants now well over $1 BILLION a year for Texas taxpayers, all funded by our property taxes which have flown off the charts, people are really getting fed up with being called “bigots” and “racists” because they don’t want to pay for schools to education the citizens of another nation.
But my guess is McCain will stick to his “my way or the highway” practice. The Oval Office is an expensive price to pay for wanting to pander to illegals. And that just might be McCain’s price.
