Fred’s last word to Iowa

Via Peter Robinson over at The Corner, here is Fred’s last pitch to the people of Iowa.

I agree with Peter, this is the best speech I’ve heard this year from any candidate and yes, it’s as close to Reagan as it gets.

“This is reminiscent of Reagan‚Äôs talk to the people of North Carolina in 1976. Simple, straightforward, modest production values‚Äîjust the candidate in front of an American flag and an Iowa flag‚Äîbut (to use the word again) compelling. Reagan‚Äôs 1976 talk enabled him to recover after a string of primary defeats, winning in North Carolina, then going on to come within a handful of delegates of wresting the nomination from Ford. Will Thompson‚Äôs talk move voters in Iowa? Does his campaign have the money to get it on the air? Throughout the state? Or even in a few of the most important markets? Beats me. But we have here a serious man, making a serious case‚Äîand doing so in the context of a campaign that has otherwise descended into mere caterwauling.

Even at this late hour, I wouldn‚Äôt count Fred out.”

Not on your life. People Fred is the real deal, not a “democrat-lite” bone in his body.

I told you when everyone was saying Fred got in too late to make a difference. Fred is Awesome. If he ever finds a way to connect to the American People he will be unbeatable because he says what most of us are thinking. He isn’t a radical who espouses far out solutions. He obviously sees the perils we face and understands our enemies. If we don’t stand up for our country and our way of life, nobody else is going to. For every bully you knock down there will always be another to take his place. That is life. We need someone in office who will put us and our welfare first. I believe Fred will do his best to protect us and keep us safe regardless of who gets offended or gets his toes stepped on. He doesn’t advocate our being a bully or pushing other countries around, But I dont’ believe he will allow us to have to take any bulls–t off anyone. Or pay off terrorists and other international criminal entities so they will “be nice to us.” No other candidate comes across as offering anything near as much.
