He’ll announce this afternoon.

“Rep. Tom Tancredo plans to withdraw from the GOP presidential field today, ending a campaign in which he failed to gain much attention or traction as rivals largely adopted his long-held immigration positions.

Sources close to the Tancredo campaign confirmed Wednesday that the Littleton Republican intends to officially announce his exit from the race at a news conference this afternoon in Des Moines, Iowa.

Tancredo’s campaign manager, Bay Buchanan, declined to confirm his intentions.

“Nope, sorry. Can’t help you,” Buchanan said. “We’ll have to see what he says.”

Tancredo’s campaign spokesman, Alan Moore, would not make Tancredo available for an interview.”

Trancredo never had a chance, but he did contribute to the debate on immigration. Not so much from his inflamatory “third world country” comments about Miami, but on the secure borders debate. So much so that in the last debate prior to Iowa all the major candidates , Romney, Guillaini, and even McCain had adopted his position. The reason is simple because it’s what the position of the majority of conservative Americans want.

Nevertheless, he’s the first of more to come.
