As you know Taliban thugs captured an innocent and unarmed group of South Korean missionaries last week. Today comes the news that they might have killed one of the males, although the details haven’t been confirmed.

“KANDAHAR, Afghanistan ‚Äî A police official said Wednesday that Taliban militants told him they shot and killed one of 23 South Korean hostages, while two Western officials said some others from the group of captives were freed and taken to a U.S. military base.

Purported Taliban spokesman Qari Yousef Ahmadi said one of the hostages had been shot and killed around 4 p.m. (7:30 a.m. EDT), and a police official who asked not to be identified because of the sensitivity of the situation said militants told him the hostage was sick and couldn’t walk, and therefore was shot.

Some of the Koreans, meanwhile, were freed and were taken to a U.S. base in Ghazni, according to two Western officials who asked not to be identified because they weren’t authorized to speak publicly. The officials did not know how many had been freed.

The South Korean news agency Yonhap, citing unidentified sources, reported eight Koreans had been freed.”

As my wife - who is Korean, and I are Christians, this hits close to home. Yet we also understand that with spreading the Gospel there are risks, especially when entering areas such as Afghanistan. We are all hoping and praying for their speedy release, but we also know that Christian martyrdom is part and parsel of the job of preaching the Gospel to all creation.

Everyday Christians are beheaded, raped, killed, all because they dare to preach the Gospel to the godless. Please visit Voice of the Martyrs and show your support as well as your prayers.
