**Note*** The MacRanger Show yesterday with Harold C. Hutchinson was about all things immigration bill. If you haven’t listen to it yet, click on the BlogTalk Radio link on the left!

As you all know tomorrow begins the battle royal over the proposed immigration bill. Hugh Hewitt is actually reading the advanced copy and commenting on it piece by piece. He has it available for download as well. Scanning through the different sections one theme does seem to rule. This is going to cost a boat load of money to pull off. Hugh notes:

“There are so many problems with this bill that it should not be introduced in the Senate absent a period of open hearings on it and the solicitation of expert opinion from various analysts across the ideological spectrum. Even were it somehow to improbably make its way to the president’s desk, if it does so before these problems are aired and confronted, the Congress would be inviting a monumental distrust of the institution. There is simply too much here to say “Trust us,” and move on. The jam down of such a far reaching measure, drafted in secret and very difficult for laymen much less lawyers to read, is fundamentally inconsistent with how we govern ourselves.”

While Hewitt is a noted law professor and more qualified than most to read through the legalise. Yet at this point his take is, well, a bit over-dramatic, again the bill hasn’t been finalized or voted on or even signed and quite frankly critics of the bill are going to parse the documents via their own biases. Saying that we can toss much of the commentary from pundits and just have to listen in on the coming debate in the week to come.

Yet reading through it myself (I’m not a lawyer), I have found some things that cause me concern. One is the story today where the President nixed obtaining back taxes on illegals citing it would be nearly impossible to determine what they had actually earned. Are you kidding me. Back in the 70s I had a buddy get a call in a pool hall in Pusan Korea from a “Jennifer” about his delinquint student loan. If the Government wants to find out what you earned - they have ways.

The Washington Times (h/t Capt Ed) is also reporting that 11,000 border agents are against this legislation as well sends to me another red flag.

There are many others as well. But again, this week will give us more information. Subsequently we should all be paying attention - with reason and not emotions - to what is being discussed.

One thing is for sure, this bill will not be passed easily based on what I have read so far. There are far too many questions and concerns that all parties will want answers to. But this is the beginning, and now that it’s out there, there is no going back.

UPDATE: Powerline on the background of McCain’s “F-U”, and concerns that have me beginning to itch.
