Conyers and his gang of thugs have a lot to learn about what power they don’t have. Back on April 3rd Conyers sent a letter to Monica Goodling’s attorney challenging her right to take the fifth:
“We have reviewed Ms. Goodling’s declaration and the letters you sent to us and Senator Leahy, Chairman of the Senate Judiciary Committee, and we are concerned that several of the asserted grounds for refusing to testify do not satisfy the well-established bases for a proper invocation of the Fifth Amendment against self- incrimination. In addition, of course, the Fifth Amendment privilege, under long-standing Supreme Court precedents, does not provide a reason to fail to appear to testify; the privilege must be invoked by the witness on a question-by-question basis.”
Monica’s attorney fired back:
“I think our earlier letter suffices and is very complete. Threats of public humiliation for exercising her Fifth and Sixth Amendment rights are not well taken and are frowned upon by the courts and the bar committee on ethics. Subjecting a person to public obloquy and humiliation makes the exercise of her basic rights more expensive. In a free country, every citizen should have the liberty to exercise their rights without threats or coercion.”
Of course it’s not Conyer’s opinion of what the fifth means - in fact it’s irrelevant. But it shows the level of thuggery that is talking place by those whom believe themselves to be in far more power than they actually are. Conyers is no stranger to thug tactics, it’s how he has retained his seat for so many years and the chief reason he used such tactics to ward off that ethics investigation against him last year. This guy is dirt bag of the first order, and a dangerous dirtbag at that.
Today he is trying the same type of tact on AG Gonzales:
“We have been patient in allowing the department to work through its concerns regarding the sensitive nature of some of these materials,” Rep. John Conyers, D-Mich., wrote Gonzales in a letter accompanying the subpoena. “Unfortunately, the department has not indicated any meaningful willingness to find a way to meet our legitimate needs.”
“At this point further delay in receiving these materials will not serve any constructive purpose,” Conyers said”
The fact is that Conyers, has no such legitimate need. After 3000 documents released so far absolutely no evidence of wrong doing has been discovered - not even a hint of it, except in the BDS’d minds of Conyers and other Democrats.
Nevertheless I would suggest that the DOJ sends a very strong message to Conyers and other witch hunters that they - like Monica - will not be intimidated thuggery and fishing expeditions.

1I hope Gonzales will stand up to them. We need to write letters to Conyers, Leahy, WH, DoJ, and our congressmen / women. Anyone write a sample letter?
