“Confounding political pundits and a slew of rivals who had become confident of his defeat, U.S. Rep. William Jefferson, D-New Orleans, neatly sidestepped a roiling federal corruption probe to win re-election on Saturday to his ninth term in Congress.
Guilty pleas by aides and associates who admitted to bribing the congressman and the revelation in court documents that FBI agents had found $90,000 in marked bills stuffed into Jefferson’s freezer had put the scent of blood in political waters.”
Shows you how dumb constituents can be. Talk about “confounded”.
But besides this, it’s also going to be fun to see Nancy Pelosi fumble around with this one. He might have won his seat, but the Federal Investigation is winding up and he is most likely going to be indicted. It’s hard to see how it could be otherwise. Since Nancy cut him off at the kneecaps when she threw him off the Ways and Means, perhaps Jefferson has a little “payback” in mind - you know how the “walls speak”.
But she did promise to clean things up and one wonders how embarrassing a Jefferson arrest would be just as she’s getting “virtue” back into the House.
