A hugh win for our National Security, and President Bush’s efforts to keep us safe. A bad day for terrorists and for those who want to help them - like the democrats - kill us.
Via MSNBC, no story lead yet, just hitting the wires. More to come. Hot Air sitting by the phone for the “end of the world”.
Allah, notes vote was 65-34, hmmm, not exactly along party lines. I wonder who “jumped ship”?
UPDATE: Story via AP:
“The Senate, siding with President Bush shortly after he personally lobbied lawmakers at the Capitol, on Thursday passed a bill setting rules for interrogations and prosecutions of foreign terrorism suspects.
The bill now goes to the president for his signature. Republicans say the bill is necessary to ensure that terrorists can be brought to justice and that CIA personnel will not be charged with war crimes when interrogating these suspects.”
Yeah….those nasty CIA guys…….sheesh, these dopes never quit.
“The legislation will establish a military court system to prosecute terror suspects, a response to the Supreme Court ruling in June that Congress’ blessing was necessary. Under the bill, a terrorist being held at Guantanamo Bay prison in Cuba can be tried by “military commission” so long as he is afforded certain rights, such as the ability to confront evidence given to the jury and access to defense counsel.
Those subject to the commission trials will be any person “who has engaged in hostilities or who has purposefully and materially supported hostilities against the United States or its co-belligerents.” Proponents say this definition would not apply to U.S. citizens but would allow the detention and prosecution of individuals financing terrorist networks.
While the bill will spell out legal rights for the terror suspects to ensure a fair trial, it will eliminate other rights common in military and civilian courts. For example, the commission will be allowed to consider hearsay as evidence so long as a judge determines it is reliable. Hearsay is frequently allowed in international military tribunals, but is barred from being considered in civilian courts.”
Clueless AP. Terrorists are NOT American citizens, therefore they are NOT covered by the Bill of Rights NOR the Constitution. They are ENEMY COMBATANTS, the same designation they have always had.
Oh well, what’s the use. Don’t confuse the left with facts, they’re mind is made up. Thankfully, that mindset isn’t in charge of our Security.
UPDATE: Michael Barone with the Roll Call and Analysis on the House Vote.
Note this:
“Note that 27 of the 34 Democrats who voted for the military tribunals have districts that voted for Bush in 2004. Two others are running for the Senate. That leaves just five Democrats from Kerry districts voting yes. Similarly, six Republicans from Bush districts voted no. Otherwise the roll call pretty well tracks the 2004 election results, in which Bush won 255 districts and Kerry 180.”
Which tells you that November may be more like 1998 than 1994.
UPDATE II: Roll call up for the Senate vote here.
Big surprise among the Democrats that “jumped ship” and voted “Yea”. Now get a hold of your seat, ……ready?
Senator “Jay” (“Hey! I’ve been to Syria and back - wanna hear about it?”) Rockefeller. Heh, more on the possible reason why to come.

Hat tip: Michelle Malkin:
I went out to eat tonight, so I’m late on the news! I guess I’ll just do a roundup.

7By the way guys, heads up…looks like Chris Wallace has another good lineup for this Sunday. Fox’s ratings should be through the roof on this one too. Former Clinton advisors and some Bush people too. Anybody wanna bet that the Clinton people will be armed to the teeth with talking points…that is IF they are “allowed” to show up at all? I was also interested to hear that Michael Schauer (Imperial Hubris) is going to be on there too. Get out the TIVO and the popcorn, people!

8Today, some of the Koskids are warming up the wardrums against Brown, Ford and Menedez for their ‘torture’ vote. I thought Chafee’s vote would probably help him, but it never occured to me that the netroots might actually help in those 3 races. LOL!
